I AM GPALA

The Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles presents “I Am GPALA,” a campaign that honors the richness and diversity of our membership.

Every two months, we honor an outstanding GPALA member whose work advances the mission and values of our organization and provides the client community with powerful tools for growth and healing. With this update, our spotlight shines on…

MATTHEW CALKINS, PSYD, CGP

“GPALA has been an enduring part of my career, a kind of ‘home base’ for impactful, experiential learning.  I’ve had the great opportunity to learn from, and become friends with some incredible people and therapists through GPALA.  I always suggest that new-to-the-field therapists attend at least one GPALA event in hopes that they would benefit as much as I have.”

A clinical psychologist and certified group psychotherapist, Matt has been practicing since 2004.  He has maintained a private practice in South Pasadena for over 12 years, providing individual and group therapy to adults.  In addition to his private practice, Matt has worked in community mental health settings and has held the position of Director of Counseling at Occidental College since 2008.  Matt served on the Board of Directors of LAGPS from 2006-2008 (later to merge with GPASC to become GPALA in 2010), and has provided various trainings in group therapy.
